VITAMIN D UV ACTIVATION SENSORS

Do the UV Activation Sensors contain Vitamin D?
No, Vitamin D does not come from the UV Activation Sensor.  The sensor works like a timer to let you know when you have been in the sun long enough to develop Vitamin D naturally.

Where do I place the sensor?
The sensor may be adhered to either your skin or clothing. It does not react with your skin--it gauges the intensity of the sunlight--so contact with the skin is not necessary.

How does the sensor work?
The sensors are produced using patented technology that causes the material to change color when exposed to UV light.  These sensors have been specifically gauged to inform a person with average/medium skin (Type 2--as determined by the Natural Vitamin D Optimization Guide) how long to expose their skin in order to fortify the body with Vitamin D.  When the sensor changes color and the sun design disappears, you have attained your optimum level and should immediately apply sunscreen or seek shade to protect your skin from further exposure.

How does the sensor know my skin type?
It doesn’t.  These sensors were gauged for use by people with the most common skin type as indicated in the Natural Vitamin D Optimization Guide.  Once you have determined your skin type, follow the directions on the guide.

What if I have very fair or very dark skin?
The sensors are intended as a general guide for average/medium skin (Type 2) as referenced in the Natural Vitamin D Optimization Guide.  At this time there is not a sensor that is made for very light or darker skin types. Darker skin takes longer than the sensor indicates. Very light skin takes less time. The sensors are meant to be a general guide for average skin types which make up the majority of the North American population.

If I determine I have “Type 2” skin, will I sunburn before I optimize Vitamin D?
No, the UV Activation sensors are gauged to fully change color well before an individual with an average skin type would burn.

Should I apply sunscreen before I go out in the sun?
No, sunscreen blocks the UV rays that trigger the development of Vitamin D. The sensor is specifically designed to gauge UV exposure for Vitamin D production.  Apply sunscreen as soon as the sensor has fully changed color.

Why can’t I just take a Vitamin D supplement or drink more milk?
It is difficult to get enough Vitamin D thorough diet and supplements.  The Vitamin D produced through the skin lasts twice as long--in the blood--as getting it any other way. The sun is absolutely the best source for Vitamin D optimization.

Where does SkinHealth Technology get its expertise in Vitamin D optimization?
Our technical team members are experts in sun-related fields of science with over 75 combined years of suncare experience. In addition, Dr. Parks is a renowned dermatologist with a profound understanding of how human skin reacts to light. Lastly, our R&D group has a thorough understanding of UV light– both simulated and natural – and its impact on human skin. SkinHealth Technology has also consulted extensively with Vitamin D and UV light experts.

Is there any reason to put sunscreen on the sensor?
No, it will not work properly if it has sunscreen or any other substance on it.  It needs full exposure to the sun.

Can my body make Vitamin D on a cloudy day?
It can, but it takes much longer.  More efficient development will occur on bright, sunny days.

What if I live up north?
Refer to the Natural Vitamin D Optimization Guide that comes in the carton, and is provided on this website, for detailed information.

What time of day should I go out?
That depends on your location and the time of year.  Bright mid-day sun is always the most effective.  The Natural Vitamin D Optimization Guide contains detailed information and a chart to help determine the best time according to your specific geographic location and the season.

Do I have to be in my bathing suit to develop Vitamin D?
No, but exposure of 25% or more of the body’s total surface is necessary.  A short sleeved shirt and shorts will provide sufficient exposure.

How often do I need to go in the sun to replenish my Vitamin D?
Exposure to bright, mid-day sun three (3) times a week is recommended.  Each pack contains 12 sensors, which would be one month’s supply.

Can I reuse the sensors?
No, each sensor is designed for use one time only. Once a sensor has been exposed to sunlight it cannot be used again.

How should I store the sensors?
Keep the sensors in the original white sleeve and inside the carton. Store the carton in a cool, dark place and remove the sensors one at a time to use them.

Why are the Vitamin D Sensors I received not exactly the same color as the picture on the box?
The box and the sensors are printed by two different processes that are difficult to match exactly in color.  The sensors actually start out a bit more orange than the example shown on the carton.  As long as the sensors have not been exposed to UV light prior to use, the amount of time it takes to turn red should be accurate in reference to vitamin D development in the body.

The ”D” that appeared the sensor as it changed was blurry.  Does that mean it worked improperly?
The yellow “D” depicted on the carton is more clearly defined than the one on the sensor itself.  The best indication that Vitamin D has been optimized is when the sensor turns red and the sun symbol disappears.

NATURAL VITAMIN D SHEER SUNSCREEN SPF 35

USE OF THE PRODUCT

How soon after the sensor changes color should I apply STEP TWO Sheer Sunscreen?
Immediately after the color change is complete.

Doesn’t the sunscreen take thirty minutes to become effective?  Won’t I get sunburned before it works?
There is a waiting period with some sunscreens, but  STEP TWO Sheer Sunscreen is formulated to be effective right away.

Would any sunscreen work just as well?
Any sunscreen with an equivalent or higher sun protection factor would stop the sunburning as long as it was formulated to be effective immediately.  The STEP TWO Sheer Sunscreen is an advanced formula that offers superior UVA protection and many other benefits as outlined on the product page of this website and would be preferable if it is available.

If I go inside as soon as the sensor indicates Vitamin D optimization, do I still need to apply sunscreen?
No, it is not necessary unless you intend to stay outside in the sun.

How much do I apply?
For facial application, use enough to fully cover the face.  Start with a dollop about the size of a dime, gently rub it in, and let it dry.  For full body applications, a good rule of thumb is 1 1/4 ounces.

Do I wash it off?
You should wash the product off at the end of the day.

Can I use STEP TWO Sheer Sunscreen like a normal sunscreen?
Yes, usage is the same as a “normal” sunscreen. However, this formulation delivers immediate and consistent protection and won’t degrade like most conventional sunscreens.

How long will a tube last?
The product comes in a 4 ounce tube, so an estimated use up rate for daily use (face and arms only) would be about 2 months. You would get about 4 full body applications from one tube.

Is the formula OK for sensitive skin?
Yes, the formula is perfect for sensitive skin.  It is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, oil-free, and fragrance-free.

Will the product moisturize my skin?
